Upcoming OERI Webinars and Events
The ASCCC OERI provides professional development regarding OER via webinars, visits to colleges, events, and presentations. During the academic year, weekly webinars provide a forum to share discipline-based information as well as information on specific topics related to OER advocacy, adoption, and development. Live webinars provide an opportunity for the OERI to hear from faculty at the colleges and our archived webinars serve as a useful library of resources.
During Fall 2023, the OERI’s twice monthly webinars (Friday Forums) will be on the 8th and 15th from 10:30 am – 11:30 am in September. In all other months during the upcoming term, they will be on the 1st and the 3rd Friday, again from 10:30 am – 11:30 am, with the final one of the term – and the year – held on December 1st.
The ASCCC OERI will provide automated captioning for all webinars and OER Liaison events (i.e., conversations, orientations, and webinars). If you would like to request a live human closed captioner for any of our offerings, please contact us by e-mail at least 10 business days in advance.

How do teachers who assign writing teach about artificial intelligence (AI) text generators? Joel Gladd and Liza Long have developed an OER guide to Writing and Artificial Intelligence in Write What Matters (Pressbooks) that helps students and teachers understand the predictive nature and limitations of large language models like ChatGPT. They invite us to become familiar with these systems and strategies for prompting and citing AI even as we continue to wrestle with the ethical considerations.
